A touchy and interesting subject that can get some seriously heated debates going because politics hits people on an emotional level. Somewhere something got lost. Somewhere the first line of the United States Constitution became skewed. Somewhere "We the People" became special interest groups and left versus right. Somewhere along the line it became a for profit industry where the more important your title the more you got to make, from the people.
The people of this nation pay taxes of everything. The average American works for the first 3 months of the year for free. How is that you may ask? Well in general the average American pay approximately 30% of their wages to taxes. This includes Federal, State, County, Local, FICA, MediCare, gas, sales, property, and the list goes on and on. Why is it that you cannot find a page that lists how much politicians make every year by searching with key phrases such as "how much do US politicians make per year?" They do not want us to know that while we are working out butts off to pay those taxes they are sitting in their luxury homes with their maid and their cook and their nanny and their driver, that they are voting to give themselves yet another pay increase. This should not be privileged information, this is OUR money and we should be able to know where it is going and what is being done with it.
Towards the end of the 8 years of Bush our country suddenly found itself in crisis. This was not like any of the crisis' that the people of this nation have faced in the last 20 or 30 years this was much closer to what happened that set of the Great Depression. Homes were lost, jobs were lost, the need of the people rose to astounding proportions. Do I blame Bush? Not entirely but he does hold fault. As does Clinton. As does Bush Sr., as does Regan. They all changed what the American dream was. We became a nation of the haves and the have nots. We forgot about the people of this nation. The people of this nation have been left in the wake of our own government.
We are still in crisis and there are so many people of this nation who are blaming our current administration. An administration who is not even one year in office. An administration that was left with a monstrous pile of crap to greet them in Washington. An administration that wants to bring ways to remember the people of this nation who have so long been left forgotten. I am not going to say that the Obama administration is perfect, they have not been in office long enough to prove one way or another but there are many out there that wont even give them a chance.
Why are so many refusing to give an administration a chance to prove itself? Because Barrack Obama is a member of the Democratic party. For too many people in this country it is the label of Democrat or Republican that makes all the difference. That is not right. People need to pull their asses out of the left right fight and realize that we are all Americans. We all have a voice. We all have the same rights. We all need to start asking the tough questions and keep our public SERVANTS in check. Quit worrying about crap liek Democrat or Republican and start worrying about why in the hell am I working my ass off to pay your salary yet you are willing to do NOTHING but argue for me?

great post! i definitely agree that we need to quit worrying about labels and who is on what side. in my lifetime i don't ever remember a time when our country has been so divided. but the problems we have affect us all.
ReplyDeletei also agree that obama inherited a heck of a mess. so much complaining is going on about what he hasn't accomplished. but truly do people think that mccain would have fixed the problem by now? of course not! there is nobody who could possibly have fixed such a mess in such a short time.
I agree with you on so many points. Here in PA, the state was operating without a budget for several weeks, and during that time, some of the state politicians were making a big deal about not using some of the money they're 'entitled' to b/c of their positions. Money to pay for them to travel from our area 2 hours to the state capital for work. WTH?!?! Where's the money I'm 'entitled' to for going to work each day? Oh, that's right... I don't get paid to commute. Nor do I get a $100 daily allowance to stay in a hotel and eat while I'm working... Grr...
ReplyDeleteAnd, yes, while I may not agree with the approaches taken by the current administration, there is NO argument from me on the fact that they inherited this mess. But, you are correct in that ALL of the blame cannot be laid on the previous administration. It is frustrating to hear people argue and disagree solely based on party lines. Working together, regardless of party affiliation is the only way to get out of the mess we're in.

You are my kinda girl. Seriously, the government runs us. I hate it. Everything about it! If we would work together instead of arguing, we may be able to get somewhere, but we don't. Nobody gets it, we like to point the finger and move on. IT DRIVES ME CRAZY.
